The Southern Middle Tennessee Tractor Ride is an annual event that began in 2007.  It provides participants the opportunity to enjoy their tractors while showing them off to fellow ride participants and event spectators.  Tractors and participants of any age and model are welcome at the event, provided that they adhere to appropriate safety standards.  No alcoholic beverages are allowed at the ride.

3rd Annual Southern Middle Tennessee Tractor Ride Set for July 4, 2009

This year’s tractor ride is scheduled to begin at 9:00 am Saturday, July 4, 2009 at the Shady Grove Community Center in Coffee County.  Please come early to register and attend the drivers’ meeting prior to the beginning of the ride.  There is no registration fee, but donations will be accepted to cover the costs of the event, including advertising, building rental, and several other expenses incurred for the event.  While we do not want to exclude anyone from the ride, event coordinators ask that tractors maintain a minimum speed of 10 – 10 ½ mph on the ride.  Tractors that are unable to maintain this speed are welcomed to be displayed at the Community Center.

Previous Rides

Last year’s tractor ride was held on Saturday, July 5, 2008 at the Shady Grove Community Center in Coffee County.  Participants rode approximately 28 miles through picturesque parts of Coffee and Warren Counties.  The tractors drove around the town square in Viola before parking behind Viola’s grandstands for the mid-ride break.  Several spectators were on hand to watch the tractors come through town and to enjoy the display of tractors while the drivers took a break.  Participants returned to the Shady Grove Community Center to enjoy a bar-b-que and potluck lunch provided by some of the participants and residents of the Shady Grove community.

The 2007 tractor ride wound 31 miles through Coffee, Warren, and Cannon counties in southern middle Tennessee.  Participants came from as far away as Michigan to ride in the line of tractors that was over a mile long.

The tractors varied in age, size, make, and model.  The oldest tractor was a 1941 Model H Farmall.  The newest tractor was a 2007 John Deere purchased less than a week before the ride.
